Our annual York Learning (Adult Education) exhibition of learners work is currently in full swing at York EXPLORE until June 2nd. Normal library opening times apply with work on display in the cafe area and around the central billboards . We had to limit work to only one piece per learner this year (due to the building work) but it is still definitely worth a visit. Here’s a preview…..
Had another lovely day on Saturday helping learners to create original lino prints. Always amazed at the variety of work produced on these workshops….
The latest work to come out of my most recent one day workshop. Further lino printing workshops will follow in the Autumn term - please email me if you would like to be put on my waiting list.
Or alternatively, if you are interested in joining me for an ‘experimental watercolours’ workshop on Saturday 20th July, please get in touch asap.
Please see below all the wonderful work which was produced by learners on my one day workshop yesterday. Next one will be Saturday 4th May.
I will be delivering a beginners one day workshop at ‘The Flax and Twine’ cafe right in the heart of York in The Shambles on Tuesday 19th March (11am to 3pm). So, if you are free and fancy a day learning a new craft please get in touch. The cost for the day will be £48 including all equipment / materials and refreshments. Lunch is available at the venue for an additional cost.
There was a rather large turn out at the last one day “Experimental Watercolour’ workshop I conducted at the start of the half term holidays, which resulted in rather a lot of creative activity!! I do hope I managed to get photographs of everyones work……
There has been some lovely work produced by my learners this term in the two classes I run for York Learning. I’m really hoping some of the pieces will be on display during our summer exhibition ‘Inspirations 2019’ at York EXPLORE library.
Here is just a small selection:

You can find full details about these workshops here
If you were involved in York Learning’s PolliNation Community Art Project, you should take a trip to York city centre this month - where you will be able to spot your art work displayed alongside the 469 others created as part of this amazing project.
The exhibition runs until March 6th - in the upper corridor of City Screen, York.

So, as promised, here are the final designs from yesterdays workshop all printed up - hope you all enjoyed the day. I hope to run another workshop later in the year for those who couldn’t make this one - please email me if you’d like to be put on the waiting list - and I will publish details of the date shortly.
(And apologies to those who’s images I didn’t manage to capture before you headed off!)
Come and join me for a one day workshop at Southlands Methodist Church on Saturday 2nd February, and have a go at creating your very own lino prints. Please see below for full course description:
Times: 10.30am - 3.30pm
Venue: Southlands Methodist Church, 97, Bishopthorpe Road, YO23 1NX
Duration: 5 hours
Tutor: Donna Maria Taylor
Cost: £40 (including all materials)
Refreshments will be available, but please bring a packed lunch.
Full Course Description:
We will start the session by looking at some examples of lino cut prints. You will then have an opportunity to experiment with mark making techniques before working on your own design for a greetings card.
At this point you can choose to either use designs / templates provided by me as inspiration or you may decide to work more independently - drawing and/or adapting your own ideas to translate using the lino printing process. If you do already have specific ideas, you are more than welcome to bring these along on the day.
Printed images produced in class can be used to decorate one off cards – or they can be scanned / photocopied later to produce higher numbers.
One or more original lino print designs will be produced on the day which can then be used for greetings cards.
Who should attend?
Anyone can sign up - from beginners to those with an artistic background, but the minimum age is 18 years.
If there is enough interest I hope to run a short follow on course at the same venue in the Spring / Summer term. Further details will be provided on the day.
What to bring on the day:
Printing can be messy, so please wear old clothes or bring an apron to wear on the day.
Also bring inspiration for you own design if you have something specific in mind. (But don’t worry if not, as I will have lots on hand).
Finally – don’t forget to bring a packed lunch.
How do I book?
Please contact me directly to book. A £20 deposit will be required to secure your place. Payments can be made via Bank Transfer (or cheque) and the balance can be paid in cash on the day.
Some belated images from the Christmas show I worked on at the end of 2018.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to this year’s ‘Santa’s Socks’ community craft project, which was again run by York Learning. As always we had a massive response from groups new and old, as well as individuals who crafted their little socks off. Sweets, chocolates and stationery were also kindly donated by local residents which helped to fill the record number of 739 handmade socks this year! These have all now been distributed to worthwhile causes in the York area - including York Food banks, IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Service) and other homeless charities.
THANK YOU EVERYONE!
Here’s a few examples of the impressionistic acrylic paintings that have come out of my Monday afternoon “Painting and Drawing - develop your confidence” class.
To finish off this terms ‘Experimental Watercolour’ class, my learners looked carefully at the work of Paul Cezanne:
More experimental delights have come out of our Monday morning class at York EXPLORE library over the last couple of weeks….
Including quite a few textured pieces…..
I was back at Huntington School yesterday - running our annual York Learning “Lino cut Christmas cards” one day workshop. Here’s a selection of the lovely work which was produced during the day:
My lovely learners are producing some beautiful work this half term in my Monday morning class at York EXPLORE library. Here’s just a few examples (inspired by the work of Ann Blockley and Jean Haines). More to follow - watch this space……
It’s been over a month now since I moved into my lovely new studio on Bishopthorpe Road in York. Since then I’ve been joined by a number of other artists as the venue is set to become a hub for the arts in the area. Exciting times ahead!
Last chance this week to see this little children’s show in York before it embarks on a national tour:
I did some sewing work on the set and so actually sneaked in and watched it last week. I can therefore highly recommend it if you do have little ones - it’s a great introduction to the magical and imaginative world of theatre. Here’s one of the reviews:
