About me (your tutor):
I am a practicing professional artist and qualified Further Education (PGCE- PCET) tutor and I have been teaching adults in a wide range of settings for over 25 years. For the last 10 years I have been employed by City of York Council as a senior tutor and observer, and during this time I have delivered many art & craft based classes and workshops (including lino printing) in venues throughout the city. York EXPLORE Libraries, York Museums and York City Art Gallery are amongst these. I also run regular painting / drawing classes in the city and offer private workshops and art holidays.
Full Course Description:
The session will start by looking at some examples of lino cut prints.
Beginners: will then have an opportunity to experiment with mark making techniques before working on their own design for a greetings card or an original print.
Improvers: (or those with some previous experience) will then have the opportunity to develop ideas for a multiple colour print with instruction and guidance from me.
Learners of all abilities can choose to either use designs/templates that I provide or you may wish to work more independently - drawing and/or adapting your own ideas to translate using the lino printing process. If you do already have specific ideas, you are more than welcome to bring these along on the day.
Printed images produced in class can be used to decorate one off cards or framed as one off prints - or they can be scanned / photocopied later to produce higher numbers.
One or more original lino print designs will be produced on the day which can then be used for greetings cards or framed as original prints.
Who should attend?
Anyone can sign up, from beginners to those with an artistic background. If you have already completed a beginners workshop with me, you will be given the opportunity to take your work to the next level – as we will also be looking at multiple colour printing during this particular workshop.
Please note: The minimum age is 18 years.
What to bring on the day:
Printing can be messy, so please wear old clothes or bring an apron to wear on the day.
Also bring inspiration for you own design if you have something specific in mind. (But don’t worry if not, as I will have lots on hand).
Finally – don’t forget to bring a packed lunch.
