THEATRE WORk

I have worked in theatre over many years, having qualified with a Post Graduate Diploma in Theatre Design from Nottingham Polytechnic in 1991 (pass with distinction). Recent work includes making a beanstalk for York Theatre Royal's production of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ (2017), making a number of props for York Shakespeare's Rose Theatre (2018) and scene painting work for ‘Dick Whittington’ at Oxford Playhouse (2018).

FREELANCE PROP MAKER

During the last York Mystery plays (at York Minster) I worked as part of an amazing team consisting of a small group of professional prop makers and a large army of over 30 local volunteers on the York Minster Mystery Plays. My main responsibility was for the production of the large scale animals for the Noah's Ark scene. In December 2016 the York Minster Mystery Plays won the 'Best Production' award at the York Culture Awards ceremony.

West Yorkshire PLAYHOUSE

FULL TIME Scenic artist / FREELANCE PROP MAKER

It was the West Yorkshire Playhouse that brought me back to my home county of Yorkshire back in 2000, when they offered me the position of Scenic Artist. For the next 2-3 years I was involved in most of the main house and studio shows there, and I continue to work for them on a freelance basis.

Most recently I worked on 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe'* (Christmas show 2017),  'Strictly Ballroom' (Christmas show 2016) which is now running in Canada, and  'Chitty, Chitty, Bang Bang' (Christmas show 2015) which has recently completed a National Tour.

Between 1997 - 2000 I worked on a number of shows on a freelance basis at the Royal Theatre, Northampton - under full time designer Ray Lett.
