Drawing with Wire workshop

Date: Saturday 24th January 2026

Time: 10.30am to 3.30pm

Venue: South Bank Studios

N.B. This course will be delivered by Helaina Sharpley - an award-winning wirework artist who exhibits both nationally and internationally. Working from her studio at the West Yorkshire Print Workshop in Mirfield, she creates intricate and elegant wirework wall pieces that blur the boundaries between drawing and sculpture. Initially inspired by the rituals and etiquette of tea drinking in days gone by, her early work focused on chintzy China cups and Victorian architecture. A variety of commissions have since led to new explorations of rural landscapes and British flora, allowing her to develop and refine new wire-working techniques.

During this workshop you will have the opportunity to create your very own wirework art piece with a little help from Helaina! Taking inspiration from your own images or objects, you will learn techniques for working with wire to create three-dimensional, wall-mounted drawings.

You will begin by sketching your design, which will serve as the template for your wirework. Then, using wire, pliers, wire cutters, and primarily your hands, Helaina will show you how to mount your wirework onto a foam board, transforming your drawing into a wire wall piece.

Please bring along photos for inspiration, this could be anything from your  garden shed, musical instruments, flowers, or even teacups.

TO BOOK - please email Donna, who is hosting the event at South Bank Studios
